I like to cook. I like to eat. I like to talk about food. I like to share what I know. I grew up watching and helping the women in my life cook. Those hours spent in the kitchen helping my grandmothers shell peas and helping my mom peel potatoes have greatly influenced my appreciation of food as sustenance, but more importantly, my belief that food is a way to share and connect with those you love.
I’m a family-taught/self-taught cook. I became obsessed with the Food Network and then cookbooks and food magazines and now food blogs. I learn from others and I learn through trial and error. I used to be very strict about following recipes to a T, but now I’m more confident in my skills to ‘wing it’ lots of times, which comes with time, patience and practice. Sometimes I get it (horribly) wrong, but most times I get it right and surprise even myself.
I try to eat healthy. What that means to me can be totally different for you. I use real ingredients as often as possible. I don’t eat red meat or mushrooms. I love to bake. I’m always reading one story or another about what’s ‘good’ to eat and what’s ‘bad’ to eat and trying to figure out what’s legit, what’s bologna and what will work for me. It’s a work in progress, so if there’s one recipe you don’t like, just wait, I promise there will be something that you will.
